What a year it’s been. The year 2020 threw a lot of curveballs and made it hard for many Americans to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But a bright light started shining for Bills fans around the world when the all-pro talent, Stefon Diggs signed with the Bills in the middle of March. It was something to be excited about as the world seemed to be falling apart while a brutal pandemic began. Months went on and everything seemed to only get worse and the world only looked like it was becoming more divided.
But in early September, the Buffalo Bills began playing football again and playing football very well. This was a nice distractor from everything going on in our world. The offense was explosive and Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen showed flashes of becoming one of the next best QB/WR duos in the NFL. This connection was only seen by us Bills fans from the outside. We saw connections like Brady and Moss, Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, Rodgers and Adams, and Brees and Michael Thomas. I know as I grew up, all I wanted was to see my Buffalo Bills have a dynamic duo that could bust it open on any given Sunday.
Now we have it. Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen broke multiple franchise and NFL records and led the Buffalo Bills to a strong 13-3 record that won them the AFC East for the first time in my entire lifetime.
The playoffs started and we had to survive a shootout and another Hail Mary attempt that seemed like it was happening in slow motion. But we survived Philip Rivers and the Colts and moved on to a much more dynamic team in the Baltimore Ravens. A battle between two AFC quarterbacks from the same 2018 draft class which has now proven it was full of talent. Baltimore came in with a running game that scared a lot of Bills fans into thinking it could be difficult to stop them if they got rolling. Leslie Frazier had a different idea, shutting the Baltimore offense down and holding them to only three points. And don’t think I won’t mention one of the most amazing plays in Buffalo Bills playoff history. Taron Johnson picking off Lamar Jackson in the endzone and sprinting it back to the opposite endzone was a top three moment from this season and I don’t think it was number two or three. That play had me running around my apartment screaming as it gave me all the confidence in the world that we could win that game and play in the AFC Championship game. After the 17-3 win over Baltimore, I was ecstatic and even cried a little bit, because in my twenty-three years of life I had never seen my favorite football team compete for a Super Bowl.
But now, we have the defending Super Bowl champs in our way and they are going to be a tough team to beat, but the Bills have shown over and over again that they can beat great teams. The Bills are number one, after adjusting for strength of schedule, in offensive production out of any of the playoff teams left. This offense is great and our defense is proving week after week that they can go toe to toe with the league’s best. The Chiefs are a dangerous team but they are definitely a team that can lose and they’re definitely a team that the Buffalo Bills can beat. I’ve only had the utmost confidence in this Bills team throughout this historic year. Let’s keep the train rolling. We have the weapons to do it.
